Size: 168 Acres
Use: Residential, Commercial
Status: Sold
Former Use:
Situated on the northern tip of the former Warwickshire coalfield, Birch Coppice Colliery was a working mine since before 1850, initially as a family affair and then as a private limited company until the site was nationalised in 1947. The pit closed in 1986 leaving the site completely defunct.
Site Constraints:
Marland Reclamation Ltd, our sister company, successfully remediated one of the largest Brownfield sites in the UK. Nine million tonnes of coal slurry had to be dispersed from a single heap alone. One of the regenerating techniques employed was to take shale, crush and screen it, before selling it on to be recycled for use in car parks, roads, etc.
Development Proposals:
With the site's proximity to the national motorway network, it is ideally placed for most commercial and industrial applications. Proposals include car distribution facilities, houses, offices and a business centre.
As part of an extensive environmental programme planned for the 168 acre site, a nature reserve and trail will replace the massive coal spoil heap. In addition, traffic calming measures will be implemented on the busy A5.
